“I feel like someone needs to take this for a real spin,” he added, asking if it was possible to move it from its gimbal. As he dismounted, renowned petrolhead William commented: “I love that exhaust” before calling the set “incredibly realistic”.
In a recent incident that has captured the attention and hearts of royal fans, new pictures of the Future King have surfaced showing a side of him we’re definitely not used to seeing. When the Prince of Wales visited Northern Ireland on Thursday, he couldn’t resist jumping on a motorbike — albeit a stationary one. It’s no secret that the prince used to love riding motorbikes in his younger years, but his wife Catherine once admitted that her husband’s hobby filled her with horror.
The sight of their heir to the throne zooming through the castle grounds has quickly become a sensation, delighting fans worldwide. However, the lack of a helmet on William has sparked concerns for the princess, especially given her personal experience with health challenges earlier this year during her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy journey.
Several months ago, Prince William amused fans when he was spotted riding around Windsor Castle on an electric scooter, but royal sources have claimed that it left his wife feeling worried over his safety. Considering his busy schedule, an insider revealed that “William is exhausted all the time with everything he’s got on his plate, so whizzing around on a scooter with no helmet is tempting fate. If he takes a fall, he could really hurt himself, and the last thing anyone needs right now is for him to end up in the hospital. They have enough to deal with as it is.”
Catherine does her best not to nag, but she was not pleased to find out that William had neglected to wear a helmet. Now, she’s stressing about the worst-case scenario and demanding that he always wears one. Her concern is understandable, given the family’s current challenges. With three young children — George, Charlotte, and Louis — the thought of injury to their father adds to the stress she’s already managing.
However, it appears that Catherine’s worries are not entirely shared by William, who reassures her that the scooter hardly goes at any sort of speed. As far as he’s concerned, there’s no reason to worry. Despite her concerns, Catherine’s fears linger, especially given the tough times the family has faced, with her cancer diagnosis being a major source of stress. William, on the other hand, insists that riding the scooter is just for fun and not about adrenaline rushes. Still, Catherine doesn’t seem inclined to let it go. If William is smart, he’ll make her happy and wear a helmet every time.
This isn’t the first time Catherine has voiced her concerns over William’s hobbies. Back in 2015, during a visit to Dandia, she expressed her worries about his love for motorcycles, saying, “It always fills me with horror when he goes out on it. I’m disenchanted.” Her hope is to keep their children, especially George, away from motorcycles.
Despite her reservations, William has remained passionate about motorbikes and even spoke about his love for them in 2011. However, in recent years, he’s toned it down for the sake of his family. In 2018, he said, “I’m a dad of three; I have to tone it down. I miss the big trips, but for me, biking was always about bonding with everyone else.” But with his recent acquisition of the e-scooter, it seems he’s still trying to find a balance between his adventurous side and family life.
