As the divisional round of the playoffs draws near, the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for a contest against the Houston Texans.

During a meeting the media this week, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes made it clear he’ll be leaning on star tight end Travis Kelce, who hasn’t had the success he imagined this season.

“I think the greats step up in the playoffs,” Mahomes told reporters about the Chiefs star. “It’s just higher intensity. The best players and the best leaders step up and make the best plays, and he’s done that. I expect the same from him going into these playoffs.

I think his mentality that he steps on the football field with at practice and on game day resonates with the entire team and gets everybody to play their best football. That’s what it takes in order to win championships.”

While he’s gearing up for another playoff run, Kelce is also making the rounds in the media. On Wednesday he spoke with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who asked Kelce if he was a Swiftie, the rabid fans of his girlfriend Taylor Swift.

“Is it alright for us to call you a Swiftie?” Smith asked the Chiefs star.

“Yeah I’m the No. 1 Swiftie,” Kelce said in response before the ESPN host questioned Travis’ love of Taylor Swift more than her mother, Andrea.

Kelce relented a bit, but not much by saying, “Come on now, I’m right there. We’re neck and neck.”

Fans loved the moment.

“I think he talks about the swifties and mom. They are tied. I think he means love for his mom and as swifties,” one person said.

“I couldn’t understand if they were talking about Andrea or Donna, but Andrea makes more sense lmao,” added another.

Another failed to get words out, using a gif to explain their emotions at Kelce’s response to the question.

Kelce and the Chiefs kick off against the Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
