Royal Disappointment: Edward and Sophie Left ‘Upset’ After Missing Out on Prestigious Titles from King Charles

Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, have reportedly been left feeling “disappointed” after King Charles III chose to honor other members of the royal family with prestigious new titles earlier this year. Despite their increased support for the monarch, particularly following his cancer diagnosis in February, the couple did not receive the recognition they had hoped for.

A Year of Increased Service

Over the past few months, Edward and Sophie have played an active role in supporting King Charles, attending numerous engagements, including accompanying him to Edinburgh for the annual Holyrood Week in July. Their dedication to royal duties and the arts, with Prince Edward’s contributions to theater and his brief service in the Marines, have often gone unnoticed.

Hopes Dashed

Insiders reveal that the Duke and Duchess were particularly hopeful that their efforts would be acknowledged with a prestigious title this year. However, in April, King Charles chose to honor his wife, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales instead. Queen Camilla was named Grand Master and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Prince William received the title of Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, and Princess Kate was made a Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour.

According to sources, the latter title was especially disheartening for Prince Edward, as it is a rare award given to those who have made significant contributions to the arts, science, medicine, or government over an extended period. “Edward’s household were hoping he would finally get an honor,” one insider told Us Weekly. “He’s dedicated to the arts, and that’s often overlooked with his theater work.”

Continued Loyalty Despite the Snub

Despite the disappointment, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh remain committed to their royal duties. Sources close to the couple suggest that they will continue to quietly carry out their responsibilities in the hope of future recognition. “Sophie has been supportive of [the King] during this transitional period, and they are really hoping it leads to something bigger and shows they are up to the task,” the insider shared. “It was disappointing, the snub, but they are still as loyal as ever and know in time this will be rewarded.”

A Stronger Bond with the King

In the meantime, the relationship between King Charles and his younger brother appears to have strengthened. The King has reportedly been singing the praises of Edward and Sophie, which has brought the brothers closer together. While the lack of a new title this year was a setback, the couple’s unwavering loyalty suggests they are playing the long game, hopeful that their dedication will eventually be recognized in a meaningful way.
