Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly bought a property in Portugal, but a royal expert has claimed the couple’s move is not an attempt to ‘pretend they’re still royals’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have splurged on a luxurious new home in Portugal, according to reports.
Some people have speculated the move is an attempt to “pretend they’re still royals,” but it seems the decision holds personal significance for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The pair have reportedly purchased a lavish property on the Iberian coast, which could also grant them a “Golden Visa” for easy travel within the EU’s Schengen area.
With a hefty $8.4million price tag, this house could indeed be their golden ticket into the EU. News of this home purchase surfaced shortly after the Duke and Duchess had to give up Frogmore Cottage to King Charles, following their decision to step back from the Royal Family.
Despite suggestions that they’re trying to uphold a royal image, royal commentator Angela Levin has shared what she believes to be the “real reason” behind their Portuguese home purchase, as revealed by Harry himself in his explosive memoir Spare.

Contrary to claims of maintaining royal appearances, it appears the pair may be seeking closeness to the royal who Meghan considers her “sister,” as mentioned in Harry’s memoir Spare. Speaking to GB News, Levin stated: “Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank [are] there and in Harry’s book, Spare, he said Meghan and Eugenie are like sisters.”
However, she voiced some skepticism, remarking: “I’m not quite sure of that because in August [Princess Eugenie] said she wants to come back to the UK because she wants to give the children an English education and she wants to be with the family.
“Is that a way they [the Sussexes] can go around various countries in Europe and pretend that they’re still royals again? I don’t think there’s anything positive about that.”
Levin noted that Portugal offers “sea and sand”, but emphasized that Meghan already has that “on her doorstep” in California, where she lives with Harry and their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Reports from The Express indicate that Eugenie and Jack are relishing their life at the swanky Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club, located an hour south of Lisbon.
Last year, it was rumored that Harry and Meghan, who have a close bond with Eugenie and Jack, jetted off to Portugal for a romantic getaway after the Invictus Games, allegedly traveling from Dusseldorf to Lisbon, then to Melides. At that time, rumors were swirling that Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank were playing host to the Sussexes.
