NFL icons Chad Johnson and Shannon Sharpe share their unfiltered thoughts on Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s impact on women’s basketball.
Former NFL superstars Chad Johnson, oftentimes known as Chad Ochocinco, and Shannon Sharpe dropped their unfiltered thoughts on Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s impact on the WNBA during their podcast, The Night Cap Show.
Johnson talked about the sense of jealousy that seems to be surrounding Clark and Reese and the attention they has brought to the sport.
“I really think they shouldn’t have any hatred towards the young ladies that are doing well. I think it might be ruffling a few feathers because of the attention that they’re getting, but it’s a good thing; everybody’s winning.” Johnson said.
The fact of the matter is that before Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, the stadiums were not filled. The attention was not with the WNBA. Things have drastically changed for the positive.
Johnson later added, “I know Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese probably get most of the credit, but it’s a good thing.”
In deeper conversations on the matter, Shannon Sharpe stepped in and revealed he’s a fan of both girls.
“I like them both. I like Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, and ya’ll can’t make me choose one. Just because I’m black, ya’ll can’t make me love the black and hate the white.” Sharpe said.
Clark and Reese have both accomplished immense milestones in their rookie seasons en route to becoming all-stars in their first year. Over the weekend, Clark broke the rookie record for assists in a single-season, and Reese became the fastest player to 20 double-doubles in WNBA history.
Instead of hating and feeding into the constant comparison, there should be more celebrating and taking in the drastic changes that are occurring across women’s basketball every day.
