In an emotional moment on the field, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce announced his retirement from the NFL just moments after setting a new franchise record.

The announcement came shortly after Kelce’s impressive performance during the Chiefs’ game against the Houston Texans, where he surpassed a significant milestone, solidifying his legacy in Kansas City.

Kelce, a fan favorite and one of the most dominant tight ends in NFL history, thanked the team, the fans, and the city for their unwavering support throughout his career.

His decision to retire marks the end of an era for the Chiefs, as Kelce has been a cornerstone of their offense for years, helping lead the team to multiple playoff appearances and a Super Bowl victory.

Breaking news: The NFL announces that the Chiefs' next clash with the Texans has been officially canceled.

The Chiefs and their fans now begin to bid farewell to a player who has redefined the tight end position and left an indelible mark on the franchise.

Patrick Mahomes Had 3-Word Message After Chiefs’ Win Over Texans

While they still need a bit of help in order to wrap up the No. 1 seed in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs got a step closer to that goal with today’s win over the Houston Texans. And you’d better believe that star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was pumped.

Mahomes got the Chiefs on the scoreboard early with a 15-yard touchdown run only for the Texans to respond with 10 straight points to take a 10-7 lead. But after a Kareem Hunt touchdown late in the second quarter, the Chiefs never gave the lead back.

The end result was a 27-19 win that lifts the Chiefs to 14-1 on the season, tying the franchise record for wins in a season with two weeks left to play. The last two times the Chiefs have won 14 games in the regular season, they’ve gone on to win the Super Bowl. If they win out or the Buffalo Bills lose two of their last three games, they’ll be the top seed in the AFC.

Mahomes threw for 260 yards and one touchdown while adding 33 yards on the ground. No player had 80 yards for the Chiefs in the game.

Taking to X after the game, Mahomes had just three words: “Thank you god!”

NFL fans, particularly Mahomes’ many haters, were quick to give credit to different factors for their big win:

“Thank you refs!” one user replied.

“Nah we know the stuff yall be doing is of the devil,” wrote another.

“Bro. You better thank something else. God can’t even make this (expletive) up. Any other human on any other team with a high ankle sprain is out for at least 2-3 weeks. They gonna drug test WRs for having 100 receiving yds in a game? Foh bro. You’re annoying at this point,” a third declared.

Like them or hate them, the Chiefs have the best record in the NFL and have long-since clinched their spot in the playoffs. As two-time defending Super Bowl champions, they remain firmly in control of their own destiny as they vie to become the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls.
