Travis Kelce is sharing the inspiration behind his ‘stache.

During Wednesday, Aug. 28’s season 3 premiere episode of the New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce podcast, Travis, 34, spoke about the return of his facial hair to gear up for the 2024-2025 NFL season.

“I always do the Andy Reid special, baby,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end said while referencing his team’s head coach, who also has a mustache.

“I grew out the hair, though. I switched it up … I don’t [have] the buzz cut,” Travis added of previously sporting a shorter ‘do.

“I’m not a Super Trooper, I’m more … kind of like a different character with the ‘stache,” he went on, appearing to reference the facial hair on display in the 2001 movie Super Troopers.

Travis continued, “But, yeah, just having some fun with it. And while I’m at training camp, I really don’t care how I look. I just want to be there and try and make it the most enjoyable experience ever.”

The football star pointed out he’d “officially spent an entire year” of his life at the Chiefs’ St. Joseph training camp practice at Missouri Western State University as he enters his 12th season with the team in 2024.

“12 years of sitting in the same dorm room over there at Missouri Western State University,” Travis commented. “I feel like I kind of go to jail every time I do this, but it’s like a sanctuary at this point for me.”

“I get to work on my craft and not think about anything else that’s going on. And, like, I can really, like, tune-up, you know, my athletic abilities, man,” he continued, adding: “I’ve learned to love it out there. I really have. So I say this, and it doesn’t sound appealing, but I really do love it out there.”

The Chiefs have played three preseason games, and the regular season begins on Sept. 5 when the team plays the Baltimore Ravens.

Travis’ stache comments come after his latest look was revealed on July 21 when he appeared at training camp with his Chiefs teammates in a video shared on Instagram.

The team captioned two photos and a video showing Travis thanking fans for coming out to cheer them on, “KILLA STACHE IS BACK 👨🏻”

The NFL star, who has rocked a variety of facial hair looks through the years, previously joked on an episode of his New Heights podcast that the mustache is specifically for when he doesn’t “have any paid appearances, or I’m not subject to doing anything where I have to team up with a company and look presentable.”
