Prince William attended the Tusk Awards on Wednesday. The royal presented three awards and gave a keynote address at the charity.
The Prince of Wales expressed his aspirations for the future that his three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—would inherit during his speech. “I want my children to live in a world where swallows still migrate, gorillas still live in the cloud forests of Uganda and rhinos still roam the arid rangelands of Namibia,” he said.
William devoted a portion of his speech to honoring rangers who have lost their lives while performing their duties. “The sobering Roll of Honour that we saw earlier recognises the Rangers who lost their lives and serves as a reminder of the ultimate price paid by too many on the frontline of conservation,” he said.
William is one of the charity’s patrons and was involved in the 2013 launch of the Tusk Awards. The awards are intended to honor the diligence and commitment of those who lead conservation efforts and protect wildlife habitats throughout Africa.
William also met with Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, one of the charity’s celebrity ambassadors.
In keeping with his father, King Charles, the Prince of Wales is an avid conservationist.
The 42-year-old royal told young activists they were “going to change the world” while he was recently in South Africa for his Earthshot Awards.
William met with 120 young environmentalists from Southeast Asia and Africa who were taking part in the first Earthshot Prize Climate Leaders Youth Program while he was in Cape Town.
The Prince of Wales told activists, in an impromptu speech at an event at the Rooftop on Bree: “The Earthshot Prize believes in you and the reason we set the prize up is for moments like this.”
He continued: “All of you in this room are future changemakers, you’re the leaders, you’re the people going to make the difference going forwards. It’s your platform, use it as you need to, take it away, play with it, turn it into something different. Because we believe in you and what you’re going to do is change the world, I really believe that.”
