At 69 years old, Elon Musk‘s mother is reaching modeling milestones usually reserved for women a quarter of her age.
Maye Musk has been in the business for more than 50 years, but in an unlikely turn of events, it took her reaching her late 60s to book a string of high-profile fashion and beauty campaigns.
Last year, she signed on as a new spokesmodel for beauty giant CoverGirl — and now she is appearing in a commercial for the makeup brand.

In the new ad, which was released on Sunday, Maye stars in a clip promoting CoverGirl’s Smoky Eye Palette.
The grandmother of ten is seen dancing on a roof, wearing high heels and leather pants as she moves around.
‘Where there’s smoke, there’s fire,’ she says, as the video dubs her a ‘model, muse, [and] fire-starter.’
Behind-the-scenes images show her totally at ease in front of the camera — and she should be, as she has been modeling since the ’60s.
‘CoverGirl is thrilled to continually toss traditional beauty standards and celebrate what makes people special,’ a press release for the campaign reads.

Maye, who is Canadian-South African, also has two master’s degrees. Though she’d been working as a plus-size model in the ’80s, she told Daily Mail Online that she ‘was going to give up on modelling’ when she first decided to go back to school.
But then, in the 1990s, Maye managed to drop 50 pounds and has managed to keep the weight off ever since.
In fact, she reveals that she is 10 pounds lighter than when she was a teenage model in the 1960s — ‘and it’s not easy!’ she said.
Now in her ’60s, the IMG-signed model has had a resurgence in her career. In 2013, she appeared in Beyonce’s music video for Haunted. She’s posed for Vanity Fair and Vogue Korea, and recently posed for Sachin + Babi’s lookbook.

Also on their current model roster is Shelina Moreda, a pro motorcycle racer who was the first female to race on a motorcycle at Indy Raceway and won the Women’s Championship in Qatar in 2016.
There’s Instagram fitness trainer Massy Arias, Ayesha Curry, and Issa Rae.
Maye, meanwhile, is the oldest-ever spokesperson to front one of CoverGirl’s campaigns.
Who knew, after many years of admiring the gorgeous CoverGirl models, that I would be one at 69 years of age? It just shows, never give up,’ she said.
