Angel Reese ejected video: Why WNBA star was kicked out of Unrivaled game image

Angel Reese has developed a reputation for being a strong, physical defender, but that style doesn’t always work in her favor.

That was on full display Saturday night when Reese was ejected from an Unrivaled game while playing for the Rose Basketball Club. Reese was defending Laces guard Tiffany Hayes when she was called for a reach-in foul.

Upset with the call, Reese waved her hand away from the play, though it appeared more directed at Hayes than the official. Still, the official gave Reese a technical foul, which further upset the forward, who kept arguing with the officials long enough to get a second technical and ejection from the game.

Reese was not pleased with her ejection, taking her frustrations to social media and claiming that she is “clickbait.”

Despite missing Reese for the second half, the Rose Basketball Club defeated the Laces Basketball Club 83-69 for its second win of the season.

Here’s a full breakdown of how Reese got ejected on Saturday.

Reese was defending Tiffany Hayes one-on-one on the perimeter and appeared to knock the ball off Hayes’ foot and out of bounds. However, the officials determined that Reese reached in on Hayes, leading to Hayes falling to the ground. Reese argued with the officials after, leading straight to her ejection.

Here’s a look at the full play:

Reese finished the game with six points, 15 rebounds, three assists and five fouls in seven minutes.

What is Unrivaled?

Unrivaled is an offseason, 3-on-3 professional women’s basketball league founded by stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. It is meant to be an alternative league that allows WNBA players to make a living in the United States instead of traveling overseas to supplement their WNBA careers.

While the figures have not been shared publicly, Unrivaled is setting a record with the highest average salaries in women’s sports history, per its website. Sports Business Journal reported the average salary for players in Unrivaled is expected to be around $250,000, with all salaries at least six figures.

All 36 initial players also receive equity ownership in their teams.

Unrivaled’s inaugural season began last month, with games being played through the middle of March. There are six teams of six players each, and all the games are being played in Miami.
