Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have once again found themselves under scrutiny, with critics slamming their public appearances as “cringe” and “overly extra.” According to sources, the couple’s recent four-day tour of Colombia has sparked fresh criticism, with royal author Robert Jobson suggesting they “love to hear themselves speak” and often come across as inauthentic.
Jobson, speaking to The Sun, didn’t hold back his opinions, particularly when discussing the couple’s 2022 Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan. “It wasn’t just fast and loose with the truth; a lot of it was complete baloney,” he said, dismissing the series as lacking credibility. He further criticized the couple’s attempts to emulate royal tours during their recent trip to Colombia, which combined elements of politics and philanthropy.
“If Meghan and Harry wanted to do ‘quasi-royal tours,’ why not stick around and do it properly?” Jobson questioned. “Then they would have been doing it for the King and the country, which is what Harry always bangs on about.” He suggested that if the couple focused on more authentic efforts in the U.S., they might avoid accusations of trying to “cash in” on their former royal status.
The critique comes as Prince Harry continues to face backlash for his memoir, Spare, which, despite being a bestseller, has been described as a significant factor in damaging his relationship with the royal family. The memoir, along with the couple’s Netflix series, has left many questioning the authenticity of their new life in California.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams weighed in, suggesting that Harry’s future might lie in supporting Meghan, particularly if she decides to enter politics or continue their charitable ventures. Meanwhile, Hilary Fordwich, another royal commentator, highlighted Harry’s enduring emotional attachment to England, despite his relocation to the U.S. “You can take the boy out of England, but you can’t take England out of the boy,” she said, quoting John Mahoney.
As the couple faces increasing criticism and what some describe as a “Hollywood freeze-out,” their efforts to transition into influencers and “health and wellness gurus” appear to have stalled. Meghan’s American Riviera Orchard project has yet to gain traction, adding to the challenges the couple faces in their post-royal life.
Despite their attempts to carve out a new identity, it seems Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s every move continues to be scrutinized, with many questioning whether they can ever truly escape the shadow of their royal past.
