A one-of-a-kind Caitlin Clark WNBA Draft autograph card sold at auction for $84,000 on Thursday night, breaking the record for the most expensive women’s basketball card. The previous record was set in January of this year when an autographed 2022 Bowman University Caitlin Clark Superfractor (a 1/1 parallel) sold for $78,000.

The card in this latest sale is the 1/1 “Blue Viper” variation of Clark’s 2024 Panini Instant WNBA Draft card, which were printed on demand and sold for a limited time following the draft in April. It marked Clark’s first card showing her with an Indiana Fever jersey. On draft night, the Blue Viper card sold for $10,000 in a Dutch auction.

Only one women’s sports card has ever sold for more than the $84,000 this Clark card commanded: a 2003 NetPro Serena Williams autographed patch card (featuring a piece of one of her match-worn tennis outfits in the card), which sold in 2022 for $266,400.

Serena WIlliams trading card sells for record amount

Clark collectibles have been in high demand as she’s embarked on a record-breaking rookie season in the WNBA. The latest release of her signature Wilson basketballs sold out in less than an hour. Since Panini has yet to release its flagship WNBA trading cards sets for this season, collectors have remained focused on Clark’s college cards and print-on-demand cards, like the one from draft night. The first of those 2024 WNBA sets will release on Oct. 16, when Panini puts out WNBA Origins, which will feature Clark rookie cards.
